The Andre Sobel Award was established to honor young cancer survivors and to enable them to fulfill a cherished desire as they proceed with their lives. A $5,000 cash award was presented to the first place winner of the contest, with additional prizes going to second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth place winners. The cash awards will be used in any way the recipients choose. The recipients were selected from young cancer survivors under the age of 21 who submitted an essay to our foundation. This year we received 61 essays from all across the country. A panel of judges selected the winning essays based on the topic "The Letter I Would Like To Have Received From a Friend or Relative During My Illness."
