Rules and Submission Guidelines
Topic: The Letter I Would Like to Have Received From My Best Friend During My Illness.
Your essay should be written in the form of a letter to you from whomever you consider to be your best friend.
Essay: The essay must be typed double-spaced on white paper and should be 1,500 words or less.
Submissions: All essays should be accompanied by the submission form. Forms are available online at www.andreriveroflife.org or by calling the ASRL office at (310) 276-7111.
Submission Period and Deadline: Submissions will be accepted via email or fax between March 15 and June 15, 2006. Entries may also be sent to:

All entries must be received no later than 5:00 PST on June 15, 2006. ASRL is not responsible for late, misdirected or non-delivered entries.
Notification: Upon receipt of your submission a notice will be sent letting you know that it has been received.
The Andre Sobel Awards: The André Sobel Awards are a $5,000 cash prize for first- place, as well as second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-place prizes presented to young cancer survivors under the age of 21 as of May 31, 2006.
Cancer Survivor: No medical definition or certain amount of time is required to define you as a cancer survivor. If you consider yourself a survivor, that is sufficient for being considered as a recipient for the award.
Residency: This is a national contest. Entrants must be residents of the United States of America.
Equal Opportunity: The awards will be presented without regard to race, religion, sex, citizenship, sexual orientation, or national origin.
Judging: All submissions will be reviewed and the field narrowed to 10 semi-finalists. The semi-finalists will then be reviewed by a panel comprised of the ASRL Board of Directors and carefully selected ASRL advocates, who will narrow the field to five finalists. The finalists shall be reviewed by a Blue Ribbon Panel. The decision of the judges shall be final.
Award Announcement: The recipient will be notified of the award by September 15, 2005. A list of all winners shall be posted on the ASRL website, www.andreriveroflife.org, no later than September 20, 2005 or may be obtained by sending a written request, with a self-addressed, stamped envelope, to:
